Dioss eID Middleware 4.8.0.0 is a Belgian identity-card utility published by Dioss that installs the low-level drivers, PKCS#11 modules and browser extensions required to read the country’s electronic ID card through any standard contact or contactless reader. Once the middleware is present, Windows applications, web portals and document-workflow systems can perform chip-based verification of the cardholder’s identity, leverage the qualified certificate stored on the chip for strong user authentication, and execute legally recognized digital signatures on individual files or large batches of PDFs, XML documents and government forms. Typical deployments range from citizens filing tax returns or signing rental agreements from home, to banks onboarding customers remotely, to municipal clerks countersigning hundreds of permits per day, to corporate HR departments verifying the identity of new hires against the national population register. The installer is distributed in two parallel release streams: the legacy 2.x branch that still supports Windows 7 and the current 4.x branch that adds TLS 1.3 cipher-suites, minidriver caching and support for the latest ID cards issued since 2023. Both versions register the card as a Windows Smart-Card service, inject the necessary CSP and KSP modules into the OS certificate store, and expose a cross-platform PKCS#11 library so that Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, LibreOffice, Mozilla Firefox and other third-party software can invoke signature and authentication functions without custom integration. The middleware is available for free on get.nero.com, with downloads provided via trusted Windows package sources such as winget, always delivering the latest version, and supporting batch installation of multiple applications.
